Last week was mine and my husbands 14th wedding anniversary. We got married quite young, I was 19 and he was 21. But 14 years later we are still together and going strong and now have 3 beautiful children. We wasn’t really going to do anything this year to celebrate as money is tight at the moment. But I got an invite to come and sample a meal at The Remarkable Hare, in Matlock. I live in Matlock, so it is literally just a 10 minute walk from my house, so of cause I said I would come and try them out.

The Remarkable Hare have been open for just over 2 years now. I have walked past them many of times but never been in. I am so glad I got an invite to try them out and I have been missing out. It’s a great little pub that serves local ales and beers from around Derbyshire and the Peak District. It’s a great place for family’s and walkers to pop in too. They also allow dogs in there which i think is fantastic, especially if you are having a walk with your dog through the local countryside and fancy a little rest.

The menu isn’t massive but big enough. There main focus is on one-bowl dishes. They also do wraps and baguettes. And a nice roast dinner on a Sunday. Then only bad thing I would say about their menu is there isn’t that much choice for vegetarians. I went for the roast veg curry with rice and my husband had the The Legendary Joe Fryl.

We didn’t have to wait long at all for the meals to be served. Mine was absolutely gorgeous! I love the curry and rice and the garlic bread was so delicious. My husband’s was a baguette with chicken, onion, melted cheese and BBQ sauce with a side salad and crisps. It looked really nice. But my husband being the big dope he is didn’t realise it had BBQ sauce on, which he is not a fan of, even though it clearly states that on the menu. You get quite a few crisps too, so I nicked a few.

The pub has loads of board games scattered around, which I absolutely loved. I am a big board game fan and this is a great idea. You can just pop in with friend or family, have a meal and drink and a good old catch up while playing a few games.

The are also getting a 65 inch TV ready for the World Cup, so that should be fun.

After our meal the owner showed us around. They have a big back room, which they have bands and singers play at the weekends. The room can also be hired out. When we visited, there was actually a wedding party there. They also have a smaller back room for small get together and afternoon teas.

They do a few different afternoon teas including Pink G & Tea, which is sandwiches and scones served with pink gin. All the cup and sauces are fine vintage English china and they look so beautiful.

If you are planning on visiting Matlock any time soon, make sure to grab my discount voucher. You can get 2 main meals for the price of one. The voucher is only valid until 30th June 2018 – so be quick.

  1. The food looks really nice but it’s a shame that there’s not much choice for vegetarians. We used to have a pub near us that had lots of board games scattered around too! It made for such a lovely atmosphere.

  2. Sounds like a treat! It would be nice to go there to catch up with friends over good food and a few drinks. I think the place is really nice and the food looks good too! They offer a lot as well, from bands to afternoon tea! So versatile!
