If you are a regular reader of my blog then you will know that we love having family movie nights. A few weeks ago I was sent out an Epson Projector so we could experience our movie nights like we was in the cinema. We couldn’t wait to give it a try. It looked pretty complicated when I first read the instructions, as I thought I would need to connect it to my computer to run a CD-rom set up. And has I have a small laptop, it doesn’t have a CD/DVD drive. But I was told that if I did need to use the software I could find it on the Epson website and just download it to my computer. But I didn’t need to in the end as the set up was easy peasy.
I placed the projector on my sideboard next to my sofa. I had to adjust the screen so it was the right size on my wall and not slanted. This was super easy to do with a dial near the front. We decided on watching Angry Birds DVD, so we just had to connect the DVD player to the back of the projector with a HDMI cable. And when I pressed play on the DVD player the film came straight on. Nothing to set up at all!
You need a plain flat wall for the projector to aim at. The only big wall we have in our living room as a big wall sticker on. So I had the great idea of placing a white bed sheet across the wall. Only it didn’t work. I had nothing strong enough to hold it up apart from sellotape and it just kept falling down. So we just watched the film with the wall sticker in the middle of it. It was a bit distracting but we got used to it after a while. But I have seen some great portable projector screens that are easy to put up.
The quality of the picture is amazing and the colours are fab too. If my wall sticker wasn’t there it would have felt like we was really in the cinema. The sound comes from the projector but you can also connect your own speakers to it. I did find the fan quite noisy, so I wouldn’t have it too close to where you are sitting. But overall I really enjoyed our experience with our first ever home projector. Just hoping that the screen I have ordered arrives in time for the Easter holidays as we will be having lot’s more family movie nights now.
