Celebrating 400 years since William Shakespeare

When I was at school I remember having to read William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It is the only book I have read of Shakespeare and I really loved it. I remember after reading dreaming out if I had someone I loved and our parents kept us apart and just how romantic it all was. It did take me a bit of time getting used to the all the strange words and they way that they spoke.

And this April was 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare and to celebrate all that he achieved Viking have kindly sent me out a few craft items to make something special.

I love loads of the quotes from Romeo and Juliet. Here are some of my favourites :

“My only love sprung from my only hate.”

“I defy you, stars.”

“What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”

“Do not swear by the moon, for she changes constantly. then your love would also change.”

But my favourite William Shakespeare quote actually comes from The Merchant of Venice –

“With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come.”

I just love it and it’s so true and something I stand by. So with the crafts I received I decided to make a little canvas picture with this quote on.

I used a gold paint marker to colour the whole canvas and then used a silver paint marker for the words. My writing is absolutely terrible! It would have looked so much nicer if I could write neat and fancy. But it will have to do.
