I first Heard of Top with Cinnamon
blog about a year and a half ago when I came across a delicious recipe on Pinterest. Izy Hossack the owner of Top with Cinnamon first started writing her blog 3 years ago when she was just 15. Sharing her love of food and photography. And now she has just released her very first cook book – Top with Cinnamon. And I got to be one of the very first to review the book.
The book has 75 recipes in it and a couple are already on Izy’s blog but most of them are brand new. There are 6 chapters, the first 5 have yummy recipes from Breakfast & Brunch, Sides, Mains, Sweet Snacks and Desserts, each with a full page photo of the recipe. The last chapter his staples and how-to’s. The book as lovely thick pages too and the recipes are all easy to make
I decided to have a go at making the Chocolate & Banana French Toast
Here is a photo from the book of what Izy’s French Toast looks like
- 4 slices of bread
- 75g chocolate-hazelnut butter
- 1 egg
- 190ml milk
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 ripe banana
- 2tbsp demrara sugar
Preheat the oven to gas mark 4. Cut the bread into small cubes. Place half in a small baking dish. Dot the bread with half of the chocolate-hazelnut butter (I used Nutella). Cover with the rest of the bread and dot with the reaming chocolate-hazelnut butter.
In a jug, combine the egg, milk, brown sugar and mashed banana. Pour over the bread, making sure you cover it all. Sprinkle the demrara sugar on top then bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.

It didn’t look as nice as Izy’s did but it tasted delicious!!! I think I might have over done it a bit with the nutella as it was a bit sickly. But me and my eldest, Ryan, finished it all off. We will definitely be making this again for breakfast or even as a pudding after tea.
