Mesothelioma Awareness Day

This September 26th is the 10th annual Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Mesothelioma is a very rare and deadly cancer found in the lining of the heart and lungs that is only caused by asbestos exposure. The reason that awareness of this disease is so important is because it is completely preventable. Asbestos is still not banned in the US and is still in many homes, schools and commercial buildings. Because of this, 10,000 Americans will die due asbestos related health problems like mesothelioma.

While most people only survive about a year after their diagnosis, Heather Von St. James is a rare 8 year mesothelioma survivor. After going through a series treatments and getting her left lung removed, Heather and her family now dedicate their life to spreading awareness about the disease that almost took her life. Please take a few minutes to learn more about her and her families inspiring story!

Thank you to Cameron Von St. James for passing on this information
