Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland may not be hidden, but it’s still a gem. Complete with two circuses, an ice rink and a Christmas market, this festive experience provides a full day out for the whole family.
This year, The Magical Ice Kingdom experience is new to Winter Wonderland. This ice and snow sculpture experience takes you into a whole new world, and will be a truly enchanting experience for the kids. They’ll meet woodland creatures sculpted out of ice, sit in a unicorn-led ice carriage and try out the slide at the ice castle. Entry to The Magical Ice Kingdom is £22 per family at peak times and £20 at off-peak times.
While you’re there, make sure you pay a visit to Santa Land, because no festive adventure is complete without a visit to Father Christmas!
Aviemore, Scottish Highlands
If you live on the other side of the country, The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd in Aviemore is the perfect place to take the kids this year. Britain’s only herd of reindeer live here, and you can find them roaming free amongst the picturesque Cairngorm mountains.
The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is open all year round, but at Christmas it’s particularly special. With reindeer-pulled sleigh rides on offer and Santa close by, it’s full of festive cheer which the whole family can get involved in.
Christmas markets – Various locations
Every year, Christmas markets invade towns and cities all over the UK. With festive music, crafts and gift stalls, mulled wine counters (for the adults) and German sausages on offer, you can spend a whole day exploring.
With many Christmas markets opening until early evening, you can wrap up warm and head out to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere. You’ll find some really unique gifts and entry into the market usually doesn’t cost a thing.

The Enchanted Christmas House – Islington, North London
Open from the 1st December, The Enchanted Christmas House provides a magical experience for your little ones. Join them as they meet Mrs Claus and play in The Garden of Winter Wonder. They can make presents with the elves in Santa’s workshop, decorate gingerbread men in The Gingerbread Kitchen, and much more.
You can get involved with the adventure as you go with them to meet Santa in his Grotto and join in with their activities. The kids can dress up and really get involved with the festive delights which this enchanted house has in store for them!
There are a range of different prices, depending on when you want to visit, with a special offer running through 1st-21st December for afterschool visitors.
A Victorian Christmas at Bryngarw House – South Wales
It’s Christmas with a twist. The Victorian themed Christmas at Bryngarw House in South Wales are holding a Christmas market with a difference. Try fresh produce and go on some traditional Victorian fairground rides as you’re transported back in time.
A Victorian Christmas is a great experience if you’re looking for something slightly different to do this year. It has all the joys of Christmas, like roasted marshmallows and a visit from Father Christmas, but adds an educational twist.
There is free admission and free parking at the house, with visitors paying only for the rides and stalls. Cream Teas and light refreshments are available, so you can really make a day of it.
